Start-up Consulting
AST_Logo_final_51_50x50_web_white
A start-up from the field of alternative medicine needed help with the concept, the structure and the implementation of its external appearance. I designed the logo and gave technical and visual design support for the complete CI. As the consulting partner I helped with numerous little and large decision processes ranging from the future digital data management and issues of the product design to the concept for and the distribution via the webshop.

CI
Bauschild TGZ BVV, Graphic Design + CI: Cassian HerzogBVV LogoThe task was to design a new corporate identity for an investor. Beside the construction sign for his latest project shown above, the building also needed a name (word brand, long and short version) and the company behind it a full new identity consisting of name, logo, letter paper, email footer, business cards and a website.

Translating and Texting
For years I have been translating (German-English, English-German) complex texts from different areas, among them many philosophical ones. I regulary extract the essence and transform it. One example is the English PhD thesis of a medical student which, after several unsuccessful attempts, I adapted so that it was finally accepted after my work.

Mediation
For several months I have been working as a mediator for a group of five people helping them to close down their Chinese company. Including several misunderstandings these five people with completely different backgrounds (an industrial designer, a member of the world bank, the CEO of an international company, a Chinese PhD student and a Chinese businessman) had been trying in vain for two years to close down the company. An accountant from Hong Kong served as an intermediary. I explained the single other views to the parties (via email, in English) and thus got a communication going which finally led to a happy end for everybody, the dissolution of the company. I was a party in a mediation process once before, a fact that surely helped me to fill the role of the mediator this time.

Print Media
Monograph Oskar von Miller Forum
OvMF Cover, Cover Design: Cassian Herzog, Foto: Verena Herzog-LoiblThe house serves as an international meeting point and the monograph is a documentation of the ideas of the founders, from the start of the construction phase to the beginning of its operation. Furthermore it explains the building through a clear visual and written illustration of the implementation of highly complex,  state-of-the-art technology in the field of renewable energies. A crucial point was to mention all groups involved in the process of the project, from the idea of the Forum to its operation.
My work started with the collection of raw data from all parties involved. I also took care of additional data being produced where missing and necessary. The next step was the evaluation, selection and adjustment of the visual and the written data. I made the concept for the book, coordinated and implemented its compilation and production, down to the adjustment of the colours in the printing plant.

From the European to the World Charter
Solarcharter, Design: Cassian HerzogAt the beginning of the 1990ies the European Charter for Solar Energy in Architecture and Urban Planning became an official EU document. Renowned architects working in this field gave their contributions for its content and then signed it as a guideline. At first the document came out in German, English and Italian.
My work started with seven additional, half-finished language versions and contacts worldwide. The task was to ensure a barrier-free access to the content across cultures. Beside the international communication for the coordination of the final print versions of the texts, the challenge was to tweak the content so that it would become easily understandable and accessible everywhere. It was about making a book that was cheap enough to leave no room for second thoughts at the purchase and that was small enough to fit in any pocket. The result was „one“ book containing ten language versions rather than having ten individual ones. The idea was to connect cultures and thus to strengthen the message.

Uffici Sostenibili – Sustainable Administration Buildings
Uffici Sostenibili Cover, Design: Cassian HerzogThis book served an Italian publisher to extend his range through architecture books. It was meant to be the beginning of a potential row and its unique feature is the documentation of one special use (administration buildings) in combination with a good implementation of renewable energies.
I coordinated and implemented everything from the idea for the concept, the first contact to studios providing potential contributions for the publication to the handover of the colour proofs of the final print version; the acquisition, the selection and the adaptation to the finished book.

Monograph SOKA-BAU
SOKA-BAU Cover, Design: Cassian Herzog, Foto: H.GoebelThe building received the European Award for Architecture and Technology 2006 and the money was used to compile the documentation.
It was my first book and created the way for many other projects. The large part of the material already existed and consequently my main focus lay on its compilation. Again the task was to explain and illustrate complex content and new inventions so that it would be easily understood by everybody.

Structure Systems
Information Guiding System
An Information Guiding System was needed for an international meeting centre including student housing, apartments, administration wing and conference and lecture halls.
As part of a team I made a requirement list for each room of the multi-storey building. We developed the structure and the concept for the system and I took care of its implementation. The result is a few hundred signs including the pictograms which Otl Aicher developed for the Olympic Games in Munich.

Photo Archive
As a member of a team I developed a nomenclature for a photo archive for an internationally working architectural studio. To ensure the easy renaming and the maintenance of a few ten thousands files, I then invented a system for its implementation that is software-independent and works across plattforms. The task was especially complex as the photos are fed into the system from many different sources and by serveral lay persons. Simplicity and user friendliness are essentiasl as well as error-friendliness. The system has to handle a large amount of internal data and contains an interface which allows a combination of internal and external nomenclature.

Trialectic
Trialectic, M.Gaeckler, R.Jäger, C.Herzog, T.Kund, T.Treiber, A.Klethi, V.PayenTrialectic is a board game for three players and consists of chess, nine men’s morris and draughts. The idea is already a few decades old. As a final project for a postgradute course the task was to create a multilingual (German/English/French) website in a virtual team that should document the game and its set of rules. At first the latter had to be finalised and then translated. The main challenge was to understandably communicate the extremely complex movements of the pieces on the triangular board. There are several different approaches to it: A written set of rules, with still images, moving images (as implemented on the website via Flash) and a physical illustration with the help of a real, physically existing board. Only the last two methods led to the desired outcome, i.e. to make the movements understandable. There was only one large wooden board. In parallel with the completion of the website during the last three weeks of the project, I developed a prototype to create the possibility for the game to be actually played.
Without this project I could not have done any of the projects mentioned above. It was my first international project.
